Last fall I found an old essay, written when I was 50, the same week that I saw a Writers’ Digest call for entries in its Personal Essay contest, I sent in “Your Rings and Your Wallet,” about a 50th birthday gift–a luxurious day at a luxury spa–which, in an eventually humorous way, was anything but luxurious and, in the end, far from free. Just found out it was 4th out of 846! Such an unexpected surprise! And is sending me back to my roots in journalism and nonfiction. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, since WD isn’t publishing all the winners, I’ve been sending the essay out, hoping it strikes some other editor’s fancy. Will keep you posted!
